Advanced ICU Care, Philips, and Adventist Present Tele-ICU Webinar

May 9, 2016 – Advanced ICU Care, Philips Hospital to Home, and Adventist Health System (now AdventHealth) partnered to present Elevating the Quality of Critical Care in a Cost-Cutting Culture with Tele-ICU. The  one-hour webinar investigated the rationale for a telehealth strategy in the ICU, illustrated the benefits that arise from the clinical data flow, and shared the goals and results of a key hospital system in establishing its tele-ICU partnership.

Presenters were:

  • Rachel Sackrowitz, MD
National Medical Director, Advanced ICU Care
  • Omar Badawi, PharmD, MPH, BCPS, FCCM
Director of Clinical Research & Analytics, Philips Hospital to Home
  • Jean Turcotte, MA, BSN, RN, CCRN, CSC
Director of Tele-ICU, Adventist Health System

Key points made by the presenters include:

  • A tele-ICU model has traditionally been pursued to overcome staffing challenges but is increasingly implemented to improve outcomes and protocol compliance.
  • Because a telehealth solution relies on the automated flow of data, it enables a rich body of information for analysis, alerting, and the development and testing of new approaches.
  • Tele-ICU has proved the ability to improve outcomes and reduce costs simultaneously, meeting the key challenges of health care reform.
  • While patient outcomes are primary, the ability of a tele-ICU partner to improve the performance of bedside care teams by supporting them and helping to avoid burnout is also a valuable outcome.
